Fourth Science Festival Held in Belgrade

Under the auspices of the Ministry for Science and Technological Development, the Fourth Science Festival was held from 3–5 December at three Belgrade venues: the Students’ Cultural Centre, ex-department store “Kluz”, and for the first time, the NBS’s Hall in Slavija Square.

Over 19,000 people visited the Festival in which more than 300 scientists from 36 institutions took part. Through a series of absorbing experiments, lectures and workshops, young scientists brought closer to the audience the seemingly complex world of science and presented its intricacies in a clear and amusing way. “How to earn your first million?”, “Is your mum a terrorist?”, “How to start fire with water?”, were just some of the blockbuster questions and answers given to visitors.

The centre stage attraction at the ex-department store “Kluz” were chemical experiments, a display on mechanical engineering with several planes and a flight simulator, as well as a physics-related installation allowing visitors to play the laser harp, teremin and Tibetan bowl.

The NBS’s Hall in Slavija was the venue of the special “SUTRA” programme – a sort of “festival within festival” featuring a blend of art, science and culture, with the emphasis on their symbiosis, interrelatedness and the endless change they experience.

By joining in the Festival, the NBS gave its support to one of the largest celebrations of science in the region. Committed to promotion of science, the NBS will also host the 50th anniversary exhibition of digital computer science in Serbia to be opened on 13 December.
