Opening Branches and Setting up Other Organizational Forms or Representative Offices by Banks Abroad

Pursuant to the Law on Banks, the opening of branches, other organizational forms or representative offices by banks abroad is subject to the provisions of that Law and Decision on Terms and Conditions of Granting and Revoking Consent Regarding Opening Branches or Setting Up Representative Offices of Banks Abroad .

Banks wishing to open a branch or to set up other organizational form or representative office abroad are obligated to apply for the National Bank of Serbia’s prior consent. Provisions of the Law on Banks and of the above Decision which pertain to the opening of bank branches abroad shall accordingly apply to any other organizational forms set up abroad.

Terms and manner of granting consent by the National Bank of Serbia regarding the opening of branches, other organizational forms or representative offices of banks abroad are prescribed by the Decision on Terms and Conditions of Granting and Revoking Consent Regarding Opening Branches or Setting Up Representative Offices of Banks Abroad.

Founding banks are obligated to submit to the National Bank of Serbia a report on operations of their branches, representative offices or other organizational forms abroad in the preceding year by 31 March of the current year, as well as to notify the National Bank of Serbia of any changes of relevance for their operations.

The National Bank of Serbia shall keep a Register of consents granted with respect to opening branches and setting up other organizational forms and representative offices of banks abroad in line with the Decision on the Method of Keeping Register of Consents for Opening Branches and Setting Up Other Organizational Forms and Representative Offices of Banks Abroad.
