Belgrade Research Seminar at NBS

The NBS and the Faculty of Economics in Belgrade jointly organise the Belgrade Economics and Finance Research Seminar with the aim of raising the level of scientific and research work and developing higher quality and more creative academic debate in Serbia.

The following research seminar will be held by Professor Assaf Razin of the US Cornell University who will speak about “Financial Globalization and the Welfare State”. The seminar will take place on Friday, 22 June 2018, at 1.00 pm, in the NBS premises at Kralja Petra 12.

The paper analyses to what extent and how financial globalisation and competition among countries in terms of tax incentives affect the prices of domestic production factors and the distribution of the disposable income in the country, as well as optimal economic policies in such an environment, with an overview of Israel’s experience in the past 30 years.

Besides teaching at Cornell University, dr Assaf Razin is a professor at Tel Aviv University in Israel and one of the most esteemed international macroeconomists in the past 30 years. He has authored a number of papers and books on topics such as optimal economic policy in emerging economies, sustainability of the country’s external debt, optimal fiscal policy, attracting and maximising the benefits of foreign direct investments, etc. He has published more than 150 papers in leading international journals, earning several thousand citations. He is an elected member of the European Economic Association and the International Association for Applied Econometrics. In addition to his academic achievements, he is a long-time associate of the US National Bureau of Economic Research, Centre for Economic Policy Research in London, World Bank and the International Monetary Fund.
