Teachers

Financial literacy is the ability to understand finance. More specifically, it refers to a set of skills and knowledge that allow individuals to make informed and effective decisions through their understanding of financial products. This makes financial education of younger generations particularly important, especially in the current environment of heightened financial risks and increasingly complex financial products. In the aftermath of the economic crisis and development of national strategies for the financial education of youth, financial literacy is gaining in importance in terms of school curricula.

The NBS organises seminars for primary and secondary school teachers, who are the main mediators in the process of education. The seminars aim to raise understanding of finances and encourage creative potentials necessary for passing on the knowledge about the key economic and financial concepts.

The materials and activities intended for primary and secondary school teachers cover all aspects of financial education. By mastering them, the teachers will be able to give to their pupils some new information about the money and its use, as well as about other concepts in the field of economics and finance.

Education for secondary school children within Global Compact activities

As chair of the Working Group for Corporate Social Responsibility in Banking and Finance, together with other members of the Group, the NBS worked on the development and implementation of two projects in the field of financial education. Within a project of cooperation with vocational secondary schools with courses in Banking, the third and fourth year students were given a chance to enter into a one-week/two-week internship in banks (members of the Group), visit the National Bank of Serbia and the Institute for Manufacturing Banknotes and Coins – Topčider, and attend lectures for students and their teachers. The project also included participation of member bank representatives on the matriculation examination panels. To make this type of cooperation official, a protocol was signed between the Association of Principals of Secondary Economic Schools and the Serbian Global Compact, which will continue to be operative in 2011.
