New method of payment at internet POS of merchants via NBS Instant Payments System – NBS IPS

As of today, the NBS has enabled a new method of payment – instant payments at internet POS of merchants.

As instant payments offer significant benefits to both merchants and consumers compared to payment cards and other forms of payment, the NBS has continued, in cooperation with banks and the most agile merchants, intense activities aimed at introducing instant payments at the largest possible number of points of sale in our county. These efforts have resulted in the launching of instant payments at internet POS, which will give an additional boost to the development of online trading.

The “Laguna” publishing house is the first merchant to allow instant payments at its internet POS in cooperation with Banca Intesa ad Beograd, which aims to maintain its position as the largest acceptor for the execution of all types of payments at internet POS of merchants in our country.

As of today, you can buy any book at the website www.laguna.rs simply, by using the “IPS Scan” option in your mobile banking application. When you decide on a product you wish to buy, and after completing the order, select the “IPS Scan” as a method of payment at the merchant’s website. The NBS IPS QR code will be displayed which will be limited in duration and will contain the data you need to initiate payment. In your mobile banking application, also choose the “IPS Scan” option, then scan the displayed NBS IPS QR code and make the payment.

Payment is very fast and simple – you do not need to type in the data as when paying by payment card. Also, importantly, this is safer than payment card payments because when making instant payments the buyer does not enter any data relating to his/her payment instrument at the merchant’s website, whereas when paying by payment card, in order to make the payment, the buyer needs to enter the card number and other required data. In that sense, instant payments are much less vulnerable to the risk of payment instrument misuse.

The security of payments is the most important part of online purchase of goods and services and “IPS Scan”, i.e. instant payment by mobile devices, provides key security to all parties involved in the purchase. Also, buyers are protected and entitled to refund if, for instance, the product they bought is not delivered after payment was made.

Given all the advantages offered by the instant payments, merchants have recognised the significance of introducing the instant payments option in their online stores and we expect them to be the key market drivers supporting massive use of this instrument at internet POS. The “Laguna” publishing house is the first in the range of merchants preparing to enable this service for online purchase of goods and services in cooperation with their banks.

We wish to remind that the NBS, with its extremely favourable fee policy, created conditions for costs of acceptance of instant payments to be much lower than the cost of acceptance of payment cards, and that banks have all the conditions to offer these transactions to merchants at much lower fees. In this way, the NBS has motivated small merchants who at this point do not accept payment cards to enable the use of this innovative, but more cost-effective way of payment at their POS, which is of significance for further development of electronic trading as well.
