The first contactless transaction with a DinaCard-UnionPay card

The National Bank of Serbia would like to inform the public that within the framework of mutual cooperation of the National Bank of Serbia with UnionPay, International Card Scheme from China, which was established on the initiative of Governor Dr Jorgovanka Tabaković, the first DinaCard-UnionPay cards were issued and the first contactless payment was made, namely the first contactless transaction was realized  with the DinaCard-UnionPay card at DinaCard acceptance network.

These contactless payments were realized within the pilot production jointly conducted by the National Bank of Serbia, UnionPay International and Banka Poštanska štedionica, which includes the issuance of a limited number of contactless DinaCard-UnionPay cards and realization of payment and cash withdrawal transactions. Support for the realization of the project was given by AIK Bank as the first accepting bank that enabled the execution of transactions with DinaCard-UnionPay cards on its acceptance network with their POS terminals and ATM devices, as well as processor-companies that provide services to these banks.

In this way, DinaCard cardholders will have contactless payment technology at their disposal by the end of current year, as well as the ability to pay and withdraw cash abroad, in over 180 countries and regions around the world, while users in the Republic of Serbia will be able to pay and withdraw cash at all points of sale and ATMs as well as other DinaCard cards. This improvement will, in addition to the lowest costs for processing these transactions for all participants, bring additional benefits and enable the DinaCard card to remain the first choice for payments to both; merchants and cardholders.

Banka Poštanska štedionica is the first DinaCard-UnionPay issuing bank, while other banks are very interested in issuing this card. In order for all issuing banks to start issuing this card en masse, it is necessary for the acceptance network (POS terminals and ATM devices) to be enabled for its acceptance, and these activities, which are very extensive and complex due to the size of this acceptance network, are in progress. It is expected that by the end of the current year, banks will start mass  issuing of a mutual DinaCard-UnionPay card.

The National Bank of Serbia will continue to carry out activities aimed at improving the functionality of the national DinaCard card for the benefit of all DinaCard cardholders, merchants and the market as a whole.
