Agroindustrijska komercijalna banka AIK Banka a.d. Beograd concluded with the National Bank of Serbia today an agreement on the acquisition of shares of Sberbank Srbija a.d. Beograd, based on which it will acquire 100% ownership of that bank. With this change, Sberbank Srbija ceases to be a member of the banking group led by Sberbank Europe AG, Vienna, Austria, and becomes a member of a domestic banking group.
In view of the newly emerged circumstances relating to the operation of the hitherto EU-based shareholder, the National Bank of Serbia first adopted a decision to initiate resolution procedure in respect of Sberbank Srbija, which enabled a direct sale of the bank’s shares by the central bank.
Blending expertise, technology and years-long experience, as well as broadening the scope of operations and combining business models will enable the two banks to offer even higher quality services to their clients. With this acquisition, AIK Banka increases its market share and becomes one of the largest banks in the country.
The shares of Sberbank Srbija a.d. Beograd will be transferred in the ownership of AIK Banka tomorrow before noon.
The National Bank of Serbia underlines once again that Sberbank Srbija a.d. Beograd is a highly liquid and well capitalized bank, which neither has nor will have any difficulties in honouring its commitments and whose clients have no reason for concern. Following the sale transaction, the clients of Sberbank Srbija become a part of a strong local banking group.
