NBS becomes a member of FinCoNet

The National Bank of Serbia (NBS) is pleased to announce that it has become a fully-fledged member of the International Financial Consumer Protection Organisation (FinCoNet).

FinCoNet was established in 2013 as an international organisation of supervisory authorities which have the responsibility for financial consumer protection. Its objective is to promote sound and efficient financial consumer protection among supervisory authorities, establish international cooperation in this area and conduct various research projects, as well as organise exchange of experience between FinCoNet members.

With the NBS,  FinCoNet currently has 34 members (including central banks and supervisory authorities of Germany, France, the UK, the Netherlands, Portugal, People’s Republic of China, Japan, Canada, Brasil, Australia, etc: Finconet - Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development ), while the work of this organisation is monitored by the following observers: the European Commision, the World Bank, the OECD and Consumers International, among others.
 
The membership in this organisation will enable the NBS full participation in all its activities, as well as establishment and further improvement of existing cooperation with the competent bodies of other countries and exchange of information and experience under the auspices of this organisation, including the best regulatory and supervisory practices in financial consumer protection – all with a view to continuously enhancing the legal framework and mechanisms for the protection of rights and interests of financial service consumers.
 
The admission to FinCoNet full-fledged membership is yet another confirmation of the results achieved by the NBS in the area of financial consumer protection in the previous period and is a clearly expressed commitment to upholding the attained degree of protection and futher improving it in the future.
 
As a fully-fledged member, the NBS received an invitation to attend a joint meeting of the G20/OECD Task Force on Financial Consumer Protection and FinCoNet, which will take place in Paris on 20–21 March.
