At end-2023, there were 11.5 million issued payment cards in Serbia, or 7.1% more than a year ago. The number of payment card transactions in retail stores came at 564.3 million, up by 21.1% from 2022. Of this number, 43.3 million or 7.7% were made by cards issued by foreign payment service providers (tourists, etc.), which is almost 37% more than a year earlier.
Serbian merchants had 136,662 POS terminals at end-2023, or 13.7% more than a year ago. The number of ATM increased as well – by 0.2% to 3,078.
As regards virtual points-of-sale, we entered the new year with 4,010 internet stores, which is 26.2% more than at the start of 2023. Greater opportunities for merchants to sell and accept online payments are beneficial to all stakeholders, as this allows the users of payment services to buy from the comfort of their home.
