Serbian citizens and businesses have stepped up the use of digital banking instruments for another consecutive quarter. In Q2 2024, 4,289,222 users (natural and legal persons and entrepreneurs) had a contracted mobile banking service, which represents an increase of 17.3% compared to Q2 2023. At the same time, there were 4,231,076 users of electronic banking, or 10.7% more than in the same quarter a year earlier.
The number of payments made by digital banking instruments went up by 6.7% y-o-y, reaching 62.1 million in Q2. The use of mobile banking grew by 23.1%, from 21.5 million to 26.5 million payments, while the number of payments made by electronic banking declined in the same period by 2.8%, from 36.7 million to 35.7 million.
Stepped-up use of mobile banking over the previous quarters reflects the advantages of mobile banking applications for the execution of day-to-day payments, including instant payments at points-of-sale by simple and reliable methods such as the IPS Scan and IPS Show, payment of bills/invoices by scanning the NBS IPS QR code, as well as sending money from one account to another by the Transfer service.
