To ensure timely, complete and accurate information, the National Bank of Serbia hereby informs the public that it has revoked the operating license from Poljoprivredna banka Agrobanka a.d. Beograd. The bank was placed in receivership on 29 December 2011, after it was established during the examination of the bank’s operations that its capital was insufficient to cover the level of assumed risk, though its liquidity exceeded the prescribed minimum level and was assessed as satisfactory.
The receivers and the NBS concluded that though certain progress was achieved, the activities undertaken during receivership did not result in the improvement of the bank’s financial status. Therefore, having established that the requirements provided for by the law have been met, the NBS decided to revoke the bank’s operating license.
In parallel with revoking the bank’s license, the NBS appointed the Deposit Insurance Agency as the bank’s administrator. During administrative management, the Agency will assume all the powers of the managing board, executive board and the assembly of the bank. With a view to ensuring continuity of Agrobanka’s business activities and full protection of interests of its depositors and other creditors, the Deposit Insurance Agency has submitted to the NBS an application to license a bank which would operate under the name “Nova Agrobanka a.d. Beograd” and to which not only insured, but all deposits of Agrobanka would be transferred, as well as a part of its other liabilities and receivables. The remaining liabilities and receivables would be retained with the bank under administrative management, but not longer than 25 days after the NBS renders the resolution to revoke the bank’s operating license. Since the new bank will assume full liability and continue operations of Agrobanka, the deposits and claims of other creditors will be safe and fully protected.
