As part of the nationwide “Museum Night” event, some 5,500 people came to the NBS premises in 12 Kralja Petra and 17 Nemanjina Street on 19 May and enjoyed special events and exhibitions prepared for the occasion.
A banknote featuring one’s own portrait and 1884 as the year of issue (the Bank’s foundation year) was the highlight of the evening, including the tour of the Bank’s impressive main hall in Kralja Petra Street. A redesigned exhibition “Money in the Territory of Serbia” was particularly attractive. It presented to visitors the historical developments and use of money in our region. Other displays were also available – visitors could try to lift a genuine gold bar and test the authenticity of banknotes. Many asked to be photographed next to the stand-up figure of governor Georg Weifert, with the Bank’s main hall in the background. The exhibition “National Bank of Serbia – National and European Institution” was on display in the Bank’s Treasury vaults where visitors could learn some interesting facts about the Treasury operation.
The NBS’s exhibition hall in Nemanjina Street offered an inspirational exhibition by the modelling artist Ivan Bata Šokčić from Subotica, titled “Ship in a Bottle”. All through the evening, the author demonstrated his skill of assembling sailboats in bottles of different sizes and shapes.
By opening its doors in the “Museum Night”, the NBS was proud to present to the widest public its role and tasks in the national economy and its importance for the country’s culture and history.
